The Ohio State city of Lebanon, county seat of Warren County, has a population of just over 20,000 and has its own racecourse called Miami Valley Raceway. The city has a rich, proud history dating back to 1802 when the town was planned out on land owned by Ichabod Corwin. When Lebanon Raceway closed its gates on 7th December 2013, having operated since 1948, there was a gap which Miami Valley filled. The 5 furlong oval track, with 191 metre home straight, offers harness racing and has a racino. It was due to open on 7th February 2014 but a power failure caused the cancellation of that inaugural meeting, and it had to wait a week for its first meeting. However, it is now fully operational for Standardbred racing, housing up to 1000 people in its glass enclosed grandstand.
